Department of Viticulture and Oenology, according to the National Council of the Slovak Republic and the EU law, exercises these statutory powers:

  • keeps vineyard register; recording the vineyards to the register and assigns registry numbers to them,
  • authorises vine plantings according to the Article 66 of the Regulation (EU) No 1308/2013,
  • administrates national reserve of planting rights,
  • acts on unauthorized plantings,
  • classifies areas in Tokaj’s region for Tokaj wine production,
  • certifies grapes for producing PDO and PGI wines,
  • keeps register of grape harvest, wine production, and wine stocks,
  • certifies PDO and PGI wines before entering the market,
  • issues export and import certificates,
  • takes the samples of the wine grapes that are representative for the Slovak Republic, processes them into wine, provides physical/chemical analysis and sends the data to the European Analytical Database of isotopic data according to European Regulation No 555/2008,
  • administrates, coordinates and updates Slovak database of isotopic wine data,
  • sends statistical data to Agricultural and Food Centre Branch: Research Institute of Agriculture and Food,
  • sends statistical data to the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic.
